For years runaway snowboards have been of concern to resort operators as we see almost daily incidents where snowboards are dropped, accidentally knocked or blown from racks or from where parked, to runaway downhill often accelerating to speeds in excess of 100kph and passing through busy ski slopes.
The result, if not injury, is usually a risky decent on foot for the owner of the runaway board, and often a risky retrieval from creeks and closed areas for an often damaged board, and creating extra risks and work for ski patrollers.
As we integrate snowboarding with Patrolling and Mountain Operations we find the need for ourv employees to park their boards on snow whilst doing trail work and whilst conducting rescues and doing First Aid.
We also insist all mountain users abide by the Alpine Resposability Code[A.R.C] and do their best to comply with the "rules of the road', and Number 6 of the A.R.C. states "Use Suitable Restraints To Prevent Runaway skiing/snowboarding equipment"; and we feel our device is the first snowboard brake that really stops the board and prevents it from running away when unmanned and surely complies with No 6. and the A.R.C.
The brake will prevent accidental injury to fellow mountain users and give insurance to the owner and prevent accidental damage to their equipment.
We have used the snowboard brake here in Thredbo and find it makes the day a lot easier and less stressfull for all concerned.
